MLB Opening Night: In memory of Marie Katherine Olbermann

Marie Katherine Olbermann 1929 – 2009

Marie Katherine Olbermann

My mother was one of the best-known baseball fans in this country...It was my mother who was the fan in our family…it was Mom who introduced me to the game, and in my teenaged years when we went nearly every day, it was she who trundled me and my sister to the ballpark. It was on her tv that I came to love the sport, and by her side that I began to understand it….and when I keep talking and talking – for good or for ill – that’s pretty much all her. What I don’t have evidence of, are the thousand hours she spent driving me to and from school so I could work on the newspaper or announce the hockey game.

Keith reminds me so much of myself, strong on geo-politics, strong ons Sports. Most of all, does not suffer fools gladly. I now wish I could say that I”m glad that Bush v. Gore went the way it did, but that would be terribly unfair to our Country and the trail of blood and economic bedlam that W and Dick left behind.

Gary, I think we see ourselves in him so easily because he is REAL! That is so rare in this world. He gives it his all and those of us who have tried to do that know we almost sacrifice ourselves to do it. I admire him so much. He truly has been our voice. Even though he is far away from here, I feel like he is ever-present. Odd, but true. Hugs to you!

Both your parents would be proud the way you stand up for yourself and do not take crap from anyone weither it Current or MSNBC. Keep being yourself and you will always have a fan in me. YOu really show what a great human being you are. Love you faults and all. Also you never have to explain being absent with a thorat infection, being a singer I know that you should never be working with those things in broadcasting that is how I can tell who the fake fans are, when they get on your case for being out sick, show that they have no idea how to resepct thier fellow human beings espically if they are celebrities.

Nothing happens by accident. Or if it does, it is a happy connection. Love this day!
